Larry Joseph Doig (February 25, 1940-November 23, 2024)

“Now (Christ Jesus) reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him, if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you have heard…” Colossians 1:22, 23a

Larry Joseph Doig, 84, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, passed away on November 23, 2024, at 12:05am. He was born on February 25, 1940, in Charleston, West Virginia, to the late Joe and Josephine Doig. On December 12, 2024, a visitation receiving line will begin at 12:30pm, followed by a memorial service to celebrate Larry’s life at 2:00pm at Harvest Baptist Church, 153 Miller Pond Rd., Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Larry, known for his kind, caring, and humorous personality, was a faithful and loving husband to Brenda (Meisner) Doig, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. He was a devoted father to his children, Daniel Doig (Angela), Sharon Doig, Michael Doig (Wendy), and Andrea Vermillion (Jon). He was preceded in death by his son Daniel, his daughter Sharon, and his sister Karen Walker. Larry was the proud grandfather to Kaylee Doig, Christalyn Doig, Carmen Doig, Cody Doig (wife Lauren), and Harper Vermillion, who brought him great joy and pride throughout his life.

Larry graduated with a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Texas in Austin. He enjoyed a long and successful career, retiring after 37 years as a computer programmer and systems analyst at Union Carbide/Dow Chemical Co. His passion for education continued after retirement, as he served as an adjunct professor of Math and Computer Science at the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies.

Larry was a man of deep faith and devotion. He was an avid reader and loved studying the Bible. For much of his adult life, he faithfully sang in the church choir and taught adult Sunday School classes, sharing his knowledge and love of the Word with others.

Larry’s passing leaves an unfillable void in our lives, yet we find tremendous comfort in His legacy of faith in Christ and the promise of a glorious and eternal future with him in heaven.

New Troopmaster for Trail Life

See below note from Trail Life Troopmaster Josh Manning:

It has been a pleasure to serve as Troopmaster the past several years and is an honor to announce to you the next Troopmaster. After a lot of prayer Peter Bowker has stepped up to take on the role. Peter has been a part of Trail Life for almost 6 years now and has a lot of experience with the program with his last role as Woodlands Ranger. He will be an excellent person for the role to lead the Troop and I will be working closely with him this year.

You will be seeing more emails from him rather than me as we make these leadership changes.

On behalf of Peter and myself thank you for your patience as we make leadership changes. Stay in prayer for the upcoming Trail Life season starting on August 12th and for more information as we get closer to the start date.

Walk Worthy,

Josh Manning
